SUMMARY:Berks Alliance Community Forum: Route 422 Improvement Project
DESCRIPTION:Spotlight on Route 422 Improvement Project\n\n\n\nThe Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has scheduled a reconstruction project for Route 422. Known as the West Shore Bypass\, the project covers stretches of the highway through Reading\, West Reading\, Wyomissing\, Cumru and Exter Townships. It is an important link in the regional highway network\, providing connections to Routes 222\, I-76\, Route 10 and Route 12 and a direct connection to Pottstown\, King of Prussia and ultimately Philadelphia.\n\n\n\nThe road was initially constructed in the late 1950's and early 1960's. This project will entail 5 miles of highway\, including the interchanges at North Wyomissing Boulevard\, Penn Street/Penn Avenue\, Lancaster Avenue and the intersection at Route 176.\n\n\n\nIn 2014\, PennDOT completed a reconstruction study that identified improvements that would affect safety\, mobility and access. Preliminary design on those improvements was begun and public comments received during that process helped refine the project scope. The project is now entering the final design phase for the initial construction section. Elements such as traffic control\, vehicle and pedestrian safety\, the environmental impact and the effect the project will have on adjacent properties are important areas of focus.\n\n\n\nPennDOT will be providing a project update and present details on the initial construction project. Join us on November 7th to learn more and find out how you can share your thoughts about this important project.
