Spotlight on Tourism in Berks County
The leisure and hospitality industry is essential to Reading and Berks County’s economy. It is the 5th largest industry sector accounting for 8% of the jobs in Berks County. In 2019, before the covid pandemic, visitors to the county spent more than $950 million annually.
In 2022, the county’s economic development strategy, Imagine Berks, identified the importance of establishing a cohesive and comprehensive marketing strategy for the county and the importance of creative placemaking as an economic attraction.
With Imagine Berks in mind, Pennsylvania’s Americana Region Visitors Bureau, the destination marketing organization for Reading and Berks County, took significant steps to invest in the future of tourism in Berks County with a brand refresh and a 5-year Tourism Economic Strategic Plan. This plan will help to advance tourism in Berks County, while creating a better quality of place/life in support of residents and our continuing efforts with workforce retention and talent attraction.
Learn about the updated strategic plan: challenges identified, the strategies, and the work that has started to support the economic growth of our county.
