Strategies for a Sustainable Tomorrow
Sustainability: Strategies to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability to meet the needs of future generations. Communities have been confronted with mounting challenges:
- Addressing the expanding demand for clean energy, water and air;
- Confronting the social and environmental determinants of health;
- Rethinking and redesigning aging infrastructure;
- Connecting neighborhoods and the changing landscape; and
- Protecting and Preserving Natural Resources and landscapes.
Nations, states, municipalities, corporations and institutions around the globe are developing strategies to enable them to address current and emerging needs while protecting resources for the future—the concept of sustainability.
In many cases, businesses have led the way to incorporate these concepts of sustainability into their business strategies, creating value for the business, now and for the future.
Join us to learn more about how local governments and businesses are incorporating the concepts of sustainability into their planning. The City of Reading Department of Public Works Sustainability Director will share how the City has positioned itself in the forefront of PA cities in building resilience through a Local Climate Action Plan. The Environmental Advisory Council, in support of the City’s efforts is trying to stimulate community conversations and engagement to identify priorities in all of our neighborhoods. At the core of this strategy is the understanding that a resilient and sustainable city is able to adapt to changing conditions, protect the environmental and community health, and create a cohesive and vibrant sense of place.
And two local industry leaders have been invited to share how they are embedding these strategies into their operations.
