The Workforce Realigned: How New Partnerships are Advancing Economic Mobility
Declining economic mobility is one of the defining chapters of our time. The path to better jobs through good training and workforce programs is narrower than ever before. Employers are facing challenges in recruiting and retaining workers. Some workers are finding it increasingly difficult to find good paying positions that use their skills and experience. But innovative, accountable workforce partnerships are beginning to change that, delivering significant results for workers and businesses.
Collaboration is at the heart of these efforts. Partnerships, often between government, businesses and training organizations, suggest a change in how we prepare the workforce of the future. Balancing incentives and outcomes, linking funding to results and expanding education and training opportunities can significantly enhance economic mobility.
The Federal Reserve Banks in Philadelphia and Atlanta collaborated to produce a new book focusing on case studies focusing on innovative ways to address workforce development and enhance economic mobility. Earlier this year, the Philadelphia Federal Reserve shared an innovative skills-based approach to occupational mobility at a Berks Alliance Community Forum. This session encouraged employers, social service agencies and educational organizations to begin to rethink how they trained and recruited employees. This session should prove to be equally thought provoking.
Ashley Putnam, the Director of the Economic Growth and Mobility Project for the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank will share the findings from nineteen different, innovative projects across the country. Ashley’s work has focused on economic mobility and inclusivity, as well as bringing research into actual practice.
Ashley will be joined by Dan Fogarty, the Director and COO of Workforce Development for Berks County and Kristi Gage-Linderman, the Chair of the County Workforce Development Board, which has recently adopted a four-year strategic plan. They will share the elements of that plan.
