As we wrap up our themed year of “Be An Ally”, hear from four women who work daily to empower, guide and connect other women in their communities, no matter their differences. How can we support other women who don’t look like us, don’t travel in our ‘normal circles’, and have a softer voice than others? Join us for an uplifting conversation and leave ready to SHOW UP for other women to elevate all.

Rosa Julia Parra, Editor, and Founder of Palo Magazine, a bilingual monthly publication in Eastern Pa. She walked away from her banking cubicle job of 21 years and pursued her passion for running the magazine on a full-time basis. She took a big leap of faith walking away from not only a stable job, but also from a 20-year marriage during the recession. Today she is proud that her magazine is not just used to promote businesses and entertain readers but also as an educational learning tool. She loves to empower women and men alike to own who they are and be who they want to be. Today “Palo”, also translated as the word Tree in Spanish continues to grow and hold our ever growing diverse community together; therefore, Rosa will continue to water it.
Tonya Butler is a Magisterial District Judge and veteran attorney who has dedicated her legal talents to public service and working creatively to improving the quality of life in the City of Reading. Subsequently, she opened the Law Office of Tonya A. Butler and offered affordable legal services. Tonya then served as a City of Reading Assistant City Solicitor, representing the interests of both the City of Reading and its residents. In November 2017, Tonya was elected Magisterial District Judge for Northeast Reading. Tracy was born and raised in central Pennsylvania but has enjoyed living, working and immersing herself in the Berks County community and culture for the past 23 years.
She spends her days as a policy analyst, monitoring and advising on emerging technology policy and legislation throughout FirstEnergy Corporation’s five state territory. She is a co -founder of the Southeast PA Chapter of FirstEnergy Women in Leadership, Employee Business Resource Group; acts as a subject matter expert to FE executive leadership on front of mind and heart issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community and helps to create and steer FE’s strategic direction on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Tracy is a passionate advocate of community and leadership, and holds a strong belief that a kinder, more equitable world is possible. Tracy’s optimistic vison aligns with two organizations near and dear to her heart and to which she enjoys devoting time and energy. She is a board member for the LGBT Center of Greater Reading, chairing the legislative and advocacy committee. As well, she sits on the Greater Reading Chamber Alliances Women2Women Council, co-chairing the governance committee.
When opportunities to decompress arise, you could find Tracy delving into a woodworking project, researching a new golf course, biking a local trail or relaxing around a fire (built way too big!) with her partner and 15-year-old pup.
