GRCA, the Berks Agricultural Resource Network, the Berk County Department of Agriculture, and Penn State Extension are partnering to provide an explanation of the recently signed Agritourism Activity Protection Act (Act 27 of 2021) and what farmers and land owners need to know for the 2022 growing season. This session will be led by Brook Duer, Staff Attorney for the Penn State Center for Agricultural and Shale Law. Attendees will be encourage to ask Mr. Duer anything about the law, how it pertains to your operation, and how it works with other laws like farmland preservation.

Brook Duer joins the Center for Agricultural and Shale Law after serving as Chief Counsel to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) for over seven years. He was also Assistant Counsel and Director of Administrative Services at PDA for another four years. Prior to that, Brook was engaged in private practice serving clients in Southcentral Pennsylvania for seventeen years. He was also elected Lancaster City Treasurer in 2005 and served a judicial clerkship for President Judge D. Richard Eckman of the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas. His private practice concentrated in civil litigation as well as representing farmers and all manner of clients engaged in agriculture and related businesses. Brook graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He has lived in Lancaster for thirty years where he and his wife Nicky, raised their two sons.
