Hydrogen's Role in Clean Energy - Why Hydrogen Hubs?
As part of the effort to reduce greenhouse emissions by 40% by 2030, the federal government has provided $75 billion to support the creation of seven Hydrogen Hubs across the country. Hydrogen is a scalable zero carbon fuel source that can be generated from either natural gas or water. This fuel can be used in multiple sectors of the economy including transportation, energy generation and manufacturing.
Pennsylvania is the only U.S. state to benefit from two separate federally funded Hydrogen Hubs: the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub (ARCH2) and the Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (MACH2). Arch 2 will serve Western Pennsylvania, West Viriginia, Kentucky and Ohio. MACH 2 will serve Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Once operational, these Hubs could result in a 10% decrease in carbon emissions. And it can create jobs and bolster the local economy.
Denise Brinley, the Vice President of TRC Companies, Inc. will explain more about how these Hydrogen Hubs will operate and their importance to our economy and the environment. TRC is one of the program managers for Arch 2.
