Reading, PA, April 16, 2026: Pretzel City Press LLC announces the official book
launch of “Ruby Moyer’s Pineapple Upside-Down Life,” a debut novel of literary
fiction by Janice E. Rodriguez, on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at The Peanut Bar
Restaurant in Reading. Rodriguez will read and sign books at the gathering.
An RSVP is required to: pretzelcitypress@gmail.com.
Although “Ruby Moyer’s Pineapple Upside-Down Life” starts off as a mystery,
Rodriguez incorporates elements of coming-of-age, romance, adventure, and—as
the title suggests—cooking. The book tells the story of a young woman named
Ruby Moyer living in Huffstown, Pennsylvania, who moves to Philadelphia on a
quest to find her mother, Inez, who has disappeared. As the protagonist has little
money, Ruby uses her impressive cooking skills to land jobs in different kitchens,
making friends like lively Vesper along the way. With a goal to reconcile her
parents’ strained relationship, Ruby instead makes unexpected discoveries about
the meaning of self, friendship, and family during her journey.
A former Spanish professor at Albright College, Rodriguez is a member of the
Bold Writers of Reading. She is known for her whimsical short stories such as
“Best Served Cold” published in Evening Street Review, “Ground Control” in The
Writing Disorder, “For Unto Us” in The Copperfield Review, “Pass/Fail” in
JONAH Magazine, and “Black Wednesday” in The Indiana Voice Journal.
